Dear Members:

I hope everyone is doing well and making it through the rainy season. I am very excited to have the opportunity to host the 2010 NWSCRS meeting, and anticipating a wonderful time for all of you in sunny California. We had a successful meeting in Sunriver, OR, last year, and would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to everyone who helped out. Special thanks to Dr. Shauna Williams, our past-president for all her hard work and devotion to the society. We gratefully acknowledge Dr. Dan Herzig for putting together an outstanding scientific program and Dr Megan Cavanaugh for a delightful evening at the High Desert Museum. We appreciate Sue Lentz, our program coordinator, for her contributions in handling the logistics of the meeting.

We are thrilled to announce some preliminary plans for this year’s meeting at the Seascape Resort in Aptos, CA. For those of you who aren’t familiar, this is on the Monterey Bay peninsula, with one of the most breathtaking sceneries on the West Coast. We are pleased to announce that John Muir Medical Center in Concord has agreed to be the new CME sponsor for our meeting and thanks to Dr. Mark Whiteford for his efforts in this regard.

Some highlights from this year’s program: we have secured Monterey Bay Aquarium for the Friday night reception and dinner. Thanks to Dr. Richard Coughlin, our local arrangements chair, for making this happen. We are delighted to announce that Dr. James Fleshman, our current ASCRS president, has agreed to be the distinguished speaker for the meeting. Finally, Dr. Madhulika Varma, Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF will deliver the Gene Sullivan, MD Memorial Lecture.
