Travel Instructions

GETTING TO ROSARIO RESORT

More detailed travel instructions provided below.

Option 1: rent a car in Seattle, Drive to Anacortes (1 hr 40 min), get in line for a ferry (best to get there 1-2 hrs before the ferry you want), take ferry to Orcas Island. Lovely views, ferry ride takes an hour. Cost ~$60 round trip for car, driver and one passenger. Website: www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.

Option 2: fly. Nicest way is to fly into SeaTac, get a shuttle from Kenmore Air, which takes you to their Lake Union (downtown Seattle) seaplane port, fly you directly to the dock at Rosario. Cost about $230 per person. Great views, trip of a lifetime. Fun, too. Kenmore Air can also fly you to the small airport at Eastsound, on Orcas Island, which may be less expensive and/or faster - if the hotel has 24 hours notice, they can pick you up at that airport. Website is www.kenmoreair.com.

IF you don't have a car on the island, here are some alternatives:

www.orcasislandshuttle.com. They have an hourly shuttle service (i.e. bus) which takes people around. Guided tours also available. Also they rent cars, starting at $60/day.

www.wildlifecycles.com: bike rentals. Rosario Resort is at the bottom of a BIG hill, but for the fit, not a problem. Island roads are not real wide, but very rural, with drivers slow and generally respectful.

Other options on "what to do while we're there" are noted on the Activities link above- whale watching, kayaking being quite popular.
